Pintech Single Zone Drum Trigger Replacement Procedure

Estimated Time for Repair:  10 Minutes
Skill Level:
Tools:  Drum Key

Step #1 Remove Mesh Head

HOLD FOAM DOWN WHILE REMOVING MESH

Use a drum key to remove your tension rods, and then remove your drum hoop.  Carefully grab one end of the mesh head and slightly lift it up enough to fit your hand under the mesh and grab a hold of the foam in the center.  You will notice that the foam is adhered to the mesh head via a small circular adhesive dot.  The goal is to slowly separate the mesh from the foam without ruining or tearing the foam. If you have a replacement foam with your trigger, then you don’t need to be as cautious, as the foam will be replaced anyways.

Step #2 Trigger Removal

TRIGGER AND FOAM REMOVED. CLEAN OFF ANY ADHESIVES.

You will now have a clear view of the foam and the trigger underneath the foam.  You will now need to remove the trigger.  You can do this by pulling up on the trigger.  The trigger will most likely be stuck to the bottom of the drum pad via a small white adhesive circular dot.  You can use something like a flat-head screwdriver to help pry the trigger up and off of the shell.  Make sure to clean off any adhesive on the drum shell as good as possible. If you have an older Pintech drum pad, then the trigger will be connected directly to the jack by 2 wires.  If you have a newer design, then you will notice a small white clip a few inches down the wire. This clip allows you to remove the trigger without having to remove the jack. If you have the clip, then please go to step 4.

Step #3 Jack Removal/Installation For Older Pintech Drums

TWIST JACK COUNTER-CLOCKWISE TO REMOVE. CLOCKWISE TO INSTALL.

Older Pintech drums do not have our EZ-Connect technology. This means that your trigger is directly connected to the jack. Thankfully, removing the jack is as easy as simply twisting the jack counter-clockwise until it unscrews out.  Your new trigger should contain a new jack with a small clip at the end of it.  Screw the new jack into the same hole that you removed your older jack from.  Hand tightening will be sufficient.

Step #4 Installing Your New Trigger and Foam

THE DARKER END OF THE FOAM GOES DOWN

Your new trigger will have a small adhesive white dot on the bottom of it.  Peel away the paper, and stick down the trigger onto the center of your drum pad. Do not use excessive force! You can now connect your trigger to your jack by plugging it into the EZ-Connect clip. Feel free to use some electrical or gaffers tape to hold the wires down and in place. You should now see a small half-circle blue adhesive on top of the trigger. Peel the top off, which will expose a black adhesive.  Your new foam will also have the same adhesive dots. Remove the dot on the side of the foam that is darker in color, and then place the foam down on top of the trigger with the darker end down and touching the trigger. Now remove the blue cover on top of the pad foam, exposing the black adhesive dot.

Step #5 Re-installing Your Mesh Heads

PLACE MESH HEAD DOWN AS STRAIGHT AS POSSIBLE BEFORE TIGHTENING!

Before placing your mesh head down, please make sure that your pad foam is as straight as possible. Take your mesh head and gently place it down as straight as possible.  The goal is to not bend the foam. After placing the mesh head down, take your hoop and re-tighten it down.  If you have a drum dial, then we recommend setting your mesh to a tension of “70”.  If you do not have a drum dial, then please tighten down the tension rods in an alternating pattern. Do not overtighten your mesh!  Over-tightening your mesh will cause your mesh to fail much sooner than normal.
